Let’s talk about API solutions in general. How does it work and what opportunities do such tech platforms open for a business?
API stands for Application Programming Interface, and it refers to a set of protocols, routines, and tools used to create software applications. An API allows different software applications to communicate with each other and exchange data. In simple terms, it acts as a messenger that takes a request from one system, processes it, and returns a response. For tech platforms, developing an API like RateHawk allows for our Clients to work with real time rates. It opens up new revenue streams and is a powerful tool for them to streamline processes and build strong customer relationships.

Have you noticed that Covid has increased the demand of API platforms?
Covid largely affected the landscape of IT resources within many companies. Once normality was kicking in we started to see interest from companies who wanted to keep costs down, but not compromise their tech. I do not think that it increased demand, maybe it just made the use of an API platform a more viable option. Switching to an API platform is always an important decision and one not to be taken lightly.
How exactly, API platforms can help companies to reinvent the way they sell and improve business efficiency?
By giving Clients the opportunity to manage their distribution seamlessly. If a Client wanted to start working with Cruises, they could do so quite easily. If they wanted to Dynamically Package, they could do so. We take care of the technological side; we develop the API’s (we have over 300) and offer a solution that gives them control. In a fast-changing environment our Clients can adapt as required because we have the set up and know how to allow them to do so.
For example, with RateHawk being one of our preferred partners, we are continually looking at ways of optimizing the API connection. By prioritizing key hotels in the avail step, better content is being returned to the end user and minimizing redundant traffic.

XML allows Clients to connect to many suppliers like RateHawk whilst controlling the content and inventory leading to better outcomes for the end user. We take away the headaches of dealing with infrastructure, servers, IT issues, etc., allowing our Clients to focus on their business and converting real-time traffic into bookings.
How has the adoption of Juniper’s XML technology impacted the improvement of your Clients’ business processes?
Working with forward distribution allows for higher amount of traffic, which if controlled and optimized correctly leads to a high number of bookings. It has also allowed our Clients to improve business processes and increase sales.

Are there any restrictions that can stop companies from using API?
It would normally come down to money. There needs to be an investment, leading to an increase in overheads. Also, maintaining APIs to optimal levels is always demanding.
What are the perspective of API platforms in the nearest future, in which ways they will develop?
API platforms will need to develop in line with the landscape of travel trends and business needs. AI and machine learning will be one area that will feature in general, but most important is constant innovation and listening to Clients needs. At the end of the day, API platforms are guided by the those who use them. Clients are the ones on the “front line” and understand fully what is needed to grow. Juniper as an API platform listens to those needs and grows/develops accordingly.

What are your goals for this year if isn’t a secret?
The goal for this year is to positively scale last year’s impressive business results. In 2022, we achieved more than 6.8 million bookings, including 7.4 million accommodation bookings, 350k flight bookings, 30k car rental bookings, more than 2k cruise bookings and 375k package tour bookings. This year, we will work to exceed these numbers and continue to provide excellent service to our Clients.
