While Sydney might be a full day of travel away from your clients, it’s impossible to deny the appeal of this laidback lifestyle where ocean views, surfing, and climbing rocks before refueling at an independent café are a part of everyday life.

As a travel agent, Sydney is a destination you’ll want to familiarize yourself with, as it offers something for almost every type of traveler, whether they want to relax by the pool or go swimming in the ocean. While it’s unlikely to make the list of the cheapest countries to visit, Australia is a bucket list destination for solo travelers, families, and groups alike.

Most popular beaches in Sydney

If your client wants to go to a beach in Sydney, then they’re in luck! There are over 100 different beaches to choose from, from smaller beaches tucked away in the harbor bays around the coastline to world-renowned surf beaches.

Most of these beaches can be reached from anywhere in central Sydney’s by public transport or ferry, with most of the larger beaches offering an array of activities, including canoeing, kayaking, and snorkeling. Below are 3 of the most popular beaches that offer something for all visitors.

1. Bondi

Where to stay:

Bondi is the most famous beach in Sydney, located just 4 miles from the city’s central business district (known locally as the CBD) in the eastern region. If your clients love the great outdoors, focus on finding a nearby accommodation that allows them to stay in the bubble of Bondi’s laidback surfer neighborhood, which will also put some of the best restaurants right on their doorsteps…

It’s easy to spend an entire day around Bondi with steady waves throughout the afternoon and plenty of nearby food spots to keep your clients’ taste buds entertained. Make sure to recommend Bondi Icebergs pool, open to the public throughout the year, and ideal for clients who want to focus on swimming laps in a pool instead of catching the surf.

2. Bronte

Where to stay:

Many tourists visit both Bondi and Bronte Beach on the same afternoon, as they’re just a 40-minute walk from each other in east Sydney. The south of Bronte is typically busiest with its iconic rock pool. Bronte is also an ideal option for those who want to experience a taste of the Australian lifestyle by having their own barbecue by the beach. Visitors can find a large, dedicated barbecue and picnic area that’s open to the public, or there are plenty of local cafes and independent restaurants nearby.

3. Shelly Beach

Where to stay:

Shelly Beach is located just over half a mile from Manly (more on this beach later!) and offers a sheltered cove on the coast for visitors who prefer a more relaxed beach day. This area is adjacent to the Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve and is famous for its local marine life, as fishing has been banned here for several decades, making it the ultimate spot for snorkeling.

Family-friendly beaches in Sydney

Not every beach is suitable for children, especially if they have larger waves. While you’ll find lifeguards on duty across most of the city’s beaches, some areas have a higher risk of sharks, particularly those around Sydney Harbour. These 4 beaches are some of the most popular for tourists and locals alike visiting with young children or multi-generational families.

4. Manly

Where to stay:

Manly can be reached by taking a ferry from Circular Quay and is home to several beaches. It’s the second most famous beach in Sydney, just behind Bondi, with plenty of spots spread across more than 1.2 miles of sand. Most of this area is family-friendly, and you’ll often find small markets hosted over the weekend.

Manly is considered the birthplace of Australia’s surfing scene and is the perfect spot for novice and experienced surfers. There’s also a popular hiking route from Manly to North Head National Park that offers stunning panoramic views of Sydney Harbour and Sydney’s skyline.

5. Palm Beach

Where to stay:

Many tourists to Australia only know the country through its famous soap operas, including Home and Away. Palm Beach is a popular tourist spot as it’s where this TV show was filmed.

While one side of the beach tends to be busier with surfers and swimmers, there are calmer waters on the Pittwater side of the beach, suitable for most children. Visitors can also take the half-a-mile trail from the beach to Barrenjoey Lighthouse, while more athletic visitors can even attempt the 62-mile Great Coastal Walk between the city’s beaches if they have time!

7. Coogee

Where to stay:

If your clients are looking for oceanside pools, send them just a few miles further south from Bondi to Coogee Beach. McIver’s Ladies Baths are part of Coogee and are exclusively for women and children with no photography permitted, while the Wylie’s Sea Baths are ideal for more advanced swimmers, though it’s best to check daily tide timings before going. Your more adventurous clients can even walk through Bronte Beach from Bondi to reach Coogee for a whistle-stop tour of Sydney’s most iconic sandy beaches.
