Detailed insurance descriptions
Previously, only limited insurance details were visible — such as coverage type and excess amounts.
With this latest update, we’ve introduced more clarity and transparency, providing full insurance information:
- A new section called “Insurance, covers, and waivers” was added to the voucher, and the full rental conditions on the vehicle card. It provides detailed information on CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), TP (Theft protection), excess amounts, and coverage specifics for parts like windows, wheels, and undercarriage.
- Short descriptions of insurance options are now available directly on the vehicle card and booking form, allowing you to review and select coverage effortlessly.

Types of insurance available
When booking a rental car via RateHawk, you’ll now find three distinct insurance options, each catering to different levels of coverage and financial security. For your convenience, we have also added insurance filters in the search bar to help you quickly identify and select the coverage type that best suits your client’s needs:
1. Basic with excess
- Description: Limits the maximum amount a client pays in case of damage — this is known as the excess amount. If the excess is €1,500, you will pay only this amount even if the total damage is €5,000. Additional coverage for windows and tires can be purchased separately at the rental desk.
- Important: This insurance does not reimburse the excess amount.
2. Refundable excess
- Description: The insurance provider reimburses the client for the excess amount after the damage is repaired and proof of payment is provided. This option covers most vehicle parts, including windows, wheels, glass, and tires, providing broader protection.
- Important: The rental company withholds the damage amount from the driver’s card. If the vehicle body is damaged or stolen, the driver can receive a refund for the excess amount from the third party if necessary documents are provided.
3. Zero excess
- Description: With this insurance, the driver has no excess to pay — it covers body damage and theft with zero excess.. Coverage for wheels and glass may vary — please check the full rental conditions to see what is included.
- Important: The insurance provider covers all bodywork repair costs, eliminating unexpected expenses.
