Observe the dress code
The dress code depends on the hotel and can vary: men need to show up for dinner in more expensive hotels in a shirt, trousers and closed shoes, while ladies should wear dresses. In less fancy hotels, it’s enough to avoid turning up in flip-flops and shorts. If you have any doubts about the dress code in a specific hotel, you can always ask at reception. You can also most probably find information about the dress code in the booklets that are handed out in envelopes together with the room key cards or are placed on the bedside tables.
If you decide to use the spa services, then there are nuances here: often, hotels have several lifts, some of which will take you to the spa center and others to reception – and traveling in your dressing gown to the latter will look a bit odd. Nevertheless, the rules vary from hotel to hotel, and it’s always best to ask at reception.
Noise
Between 22:00 and 08:00, it’s best not to make a noise in the hotel, even if you and your colleagues are having an argument about an upcoming meeting or you are celebrating a successful negotiation. Almost all hotels are poorly sound-proofed, so you risk disturbing the repose of your neighbors.
A second point concerns the bedroom doors: usually, they are very heavy (plus special card readers are built into them), and if you don’t hold the door when you close it, the sound of the slam will be audible throughout the floor.
Smoking in special places
In Belgium, like in other countries, you will be fined for smoking in public places (for example, the fine can reach €1,600). As far as the hotel territory is concerned, the administration has the right to decide where guests can smoke (outside or in special places) or whether they can even smoke there at all. In some hotels, they even require guests to sign the rules of behavior, which cover smoking.
Changing your room
If the offered room category doesn’t suit you (too close to the lift, or you suddenly discovered it doesn’t have any windows), it’s best to make this known before you unpack your suitcase a hotel.
If you know in advance your room category, you can take advantage of the rooming service and review all rooms in this category in order to select the one you most fancy.
The buffet
As we have already recounted in our material about fines in hotels, there might be a “clear plates law” in some countries: the guest has to pay a fine if he took lots of food but didn’t eat all of it. We’re sure you’ve encountered such a scene, so our advice is simple: it’s best to go back a number of times for extra helpings.
Tips
Tips are a way to show that you appreciated the staff’s work. If the concierge recommended a good restaurant to you and your colleagues, or the porter carried heavy bags, then this is a decent reason for a financial inducement.
The Finishing Line
Have you found all 5 words? Congratulations! All that now remains is for you to form a sentence from them and write it here.
Additional guests
Unfortunately, if more people go on the business trip than was originally planned, accommodating them in the rooms of their colleagues won’t be possible. The hotel profile always contains information on how many people can be accommodated in each room. If your plans have changed, you will have to pay extra for the additional guests.
Have great business trips!
